Arunachal Pradesh, nestled in the northeastern part of India, is a land of mystique and enchantment. Amidst its breathtaking landscapes, this picturesque state is home to a myriad of indigenous tribes, each with its unique language, traditions, and customs. As we journey through the ethereal beauty of Arunachal Pradesh, let's unravel the rich cultural tapestry woven by its diverse tribes.

  1. Adi (Abor)
  2. Aka (Hrusso)
  3. Apatani
  4. Nyishi
  5. Tagin
  6. Galo
  7. Tai Khampti
  8. Mishmi (Idu, Digaru and Miju)
  9. Monpa

  11. Singpho
The other major tribes are:

    12. Buguns (Khowa)

    14. Khamba
    15. Memba

    18. Tutsa
    19. Wancho
    20. Yobin
    21. Nocte
    22. Tangsa

These tribes are spread across the different districts of Arunachal Pradesh, and each tribe has its own unique culture, language, and traditions. The tribes of Arunachal Pradesh are a living example of the rich cultural diversity of India.

Although it is popular that there are twenty-six major tribes and more than hundred sub-tribes in Arunachal Pradesh, there are no official document to back this claim and the government data that is available in this respect in the form of census data and the names of the tribes mentioned in the Indian constitution about Arunachal Pradesh makes it even more confusing. My independent research based on the official data that is available and my indigenous knowledge found names of twenty-two tribes that can be categorized as major tribes of Arunachal Pradesh.
